Jenny Mahy

Jenny is a local, self-taught artist primarily working in textiles. She enjoys the tactile virtues of working with cloth and thread and the opportunity it affords to add 3D elements to pieces of work.

“Maybe I don’t have a particular style or method of working, but my inspiration is almost always taken from the natural world, particularly the place where I live on the Island’s west coast. My approach is nostalgic rather than radical.”

Jenny’s aims to echo Morris’ ethos in her work. She tries to use materials from the stash she has built up over the years and not resort to online shopping - reuse, recycle. She believes that this can have unexpected benefits as, whilst searching through her spare fabrics initially looking for a particular colour or thread, she is sometimes forced to think again, and this adds an unexpected element to pre-determined ideas.
